Under the Sea

Good morning how are you all? Rikki here today with another nautical inspired piece this time its a canvas. Have you ever had the most perfect piece of chipboard in your stash, but you held onto it knowing that your wanted to do the ''perfect'' thing with it?

I have, the 11'' Porthole has been that piece for me, it has sat with all the other chipboard pieces, wondering if its was its day to get used, well it doesnt have to wonder anymore.........

Like any work, it starts with a great base..... because it was an ocean theme the Scales stencil was the perfect touch to add interest to the background this will also allow all the colours to run and catch and it will act like little valleys for all the microbeads and extra embellishments later on.

Once the texture paste is dried add your colour to your background I used Lindy Stamp Gang Sprays and Magicals and I allowed to dry naturally so the pigment in these to settle and dry into the background, I find that when you heat them they come to the surface and can be too shiny ( I know, considering the amount of bling on it).

While its is drying its a great time to spray all your chipboard white with a spray can.

Now once things are dry add a silicone tape to the first part of the porthole, stick to the canvas, and then repeat the step with the door detail of the the porthole.

Now its just a matter of figure out where you want your elements to go, I did move things several times, and by taking photos it give you a little perspective on where gaps are, which is sometimes hard to see when your not working over the top of it all the time.

Once you stick all elements down its time to spray some colour all over, focusing on all the things your want blue first then onto your brighter oranges and earth tones.

For the background I added foil flakes then added water so the other colours from the canvas would sit above and dull the brightness.

So its all about textures and of course bling look at beads, microbeads, glass flakes and chucky glitters to give you a bumpy, lumpy effect.

If you over heat spray paint it tends to bubbly a little, just for safety reasons please do it in a well ventilated space.

So I hope this has inspired you to use your favourite pieces of chipboard rather than let them sit there.

Reach for the Stars- Mintay Nightfall Process Video - for Craft on the Run

Good Morning how are you? I am here with my second tutorial for Mintay month at Craft on the Run.... How are you liking the tutorials so far? Feel like you can acheive something with these papers now?

We all love Mintay Papers but often they are so stunning that sometimes we dont know what to do with them, so the Craft on the Run Design Team is here to help with how they approach these collections so you have the confidence to use these papers.

As an added bonus and to encourage you to play along and give these tutorials a go we are doing a Mintay Giveaway...

Create a project based on any of the tutorials and share in the group/album telling us which tutorial you used and you go in the draw to win some stunning Mintay Papers.

Your creations must be based on the Design Team tutorials.

What do you think?

Want to give it a go?

If you are ready to share follow the link below and add your creation in the album.

So heres a process video so you can follow along if you want to recreate this layout:

When looking at papers like this I like to see if halving the pattern will help it be less complicated.....
I know fussy cutting doesnt seem to be less complicated but it can help you add a smaller portion of details to a simpler background.

Remember a great pair of scissors and a scapula are you best friends

A great washi tape can add an informal board to the bottom of the page and adding a little chipboard title can act as a journal strip.

Adding simple embellishments like there's Uniquely Creative Stars help add some interest without over whelming the page.

I hope you like this tutorial, till next time have a creative day.

Sun Kissed

Good morning how are you? I am here for Dusty Attic today for my first share of the month, kicking off with this months Moodboard Challenge. I have to say these are my favourite colours !!!

What your favourite colour pallete?

Once again its all about getting messy, I find these layouts are great when you have a few bits and pieces of paper left over maybe a little bit of ephemera that you dont want to throw out , so why dont you set yourself a challenge - use some left over paper pieces and add some chipboard and see if your can create a layout.

This is what I love about chipboard it can make a layout without a lot of effort, even when you ink your colours- all the chipboard is covered in is with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide, all I did was swipe the main colour onto the chipboard and when it dried I dabbed the contrast colours on..... no tools, just the ink pad.

Spray painting chipboard works especially for the etched titles like the Sun Kissed one above, it allows your to give full coverage and its contrast at the same time.

To add to the ''wet'' water look in used a clear mica spray all over the chipboard, it also because its a wet media pulls some of the oxide colours up to add more of a spotted look.

To add more little details - use art stones, glass fairy dust, drew drops and rhinestones thought out the layout, its all about catching your eye.

Clear sequins act as bubbles so dont forget to add some of those to finish off your layout.
